What Age Youth Participate in Cub Scouts?
The Cub Scout program starts in Kindergarten (typically 5 years old) and goes to the 5th grade (typically 10 years old).
What's the Plan For Starting a Cub Scout Pack?
I initially want to find a small group of adults with age appropriate youth to meet with me and a council representative about two times to:
plan publicizing the effort within peoples' school and other communities
brainstorm organizations I can approach to sponsor the Cub Scout Pack. Sponsorship involves participating in ensuring the Pack's success and (typically) providing a place to meet.
We will then host some community meetings at the start of the school year publicizing our efforts and recruiting youth and adults.
What Specifically is Being Asked of Me if I Volunteer to Assist?
Attendance at two meetings as described above and participation in some community publicity and recruiting meetings. You are not signing up for any ongoing commitments beyond this.
Where Can I Learn More About Current Scouting Programs and Practices?
Jamaica Plain is within the Spirit of America Scouting Council. The council website at https://www.scoutingboston.org/ is loaded with information on current scouting programs and practices as is the national organization's website at https://www.scouting.org/.
